As a victim of spousal abuse, Esther Nderitu had a dream to build a home for women who were experiencing the same kind of emotional and physical pain that she had suffered. Esther had been raped, beaten, tortured and even found herself hiding in a pit latrine for safety.

The Emily Martin Rescue Centre provides a place where women can find safety , counseling, and spiritual renewal while sorting out the next steps in their lives. Esther began the journey to create the centre with money she had been given as an inheritance to purchase the first plot of land. NOW Kenya assisted by purchasing the second plot of land. Construction began in June of 2016 and the first client was received in the fall of 2018. Please scroll down to find out about Emily Martin - the young lady for whom the centre was named.

Clients at the center are often under the age of 14 , pregnant or there as a result of having undergone female circumcision. Female circumcision is part of a ritual for many Kenyan tribes which prepare children for early  forced marriage.
